Community Living Toronto
Who Are We?
The Community Living Toronto family is comprised of individuals we support, their families and friends, staff, volunteers and others who believe that people with an intellectual disability should be included in their communities and neighbourhoods. Our goal is “that people with an intellectual disability live in a state of dignity, share in all elements of living in their community and have equal opportunity to participate effectively.”

Our History
Community Living Toronto was formed in 1948 when a group of parents came together to seek, and create, alternatives to institutionalizing people with intellectual disabilities. Since then, we have become a leader in assisting individuals with an intellectual disability with living meaningful, community-based lifestyles by creating opportunities which help them to realize their goals and aspirations.

Our Structure
Community Living Toronto is a large organization, with over 70 program locations, 1,200 staff, 1,000 members and 1,000 volunteers. To maintain and further develop our community relationships, we have four program regions: Central, Etobicoke/York, North York and Scarborough. Community Living Toronto relies on the strength of its members and volunteers, who help us in achieving our vision of community participation, and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

Board of Directors
Our volunteer Board of Directors shape the vision and direction of Community Living Toronto. Each region has a representative to the Board.

Regional Council
Each region has its own volunteer Council, which is both an informational and access point for members.

Membership
Without the commitment of our members, we are merely a large social service agency. With the support and the strength of an active membership, we are a movement for social change.

Staff
Led by an Executive Director and Senior Management team, we have over 1,200 committed and experienced staff who all work towards a vision of inclusion and meaningful opportunity for individuals who have an intellectual disability

Our Funders
Community Living Toronto receives operating funds from the United Way, the Provincial Government and the City of Toronto. We also rely on corporate and individual donations and fundraising initiatives to support our innovative programs and services.

Our Programs
Community Living Toronto provides a variety of innovative and traditional services and supports to adults and children with intellectual disabilities and their families that are person-centred, and develop natural networks within the community that support an individual’s independence and personal achievement. Our services include employment support and training, early childhood support, children’s respite, adult residential accommodation, community and family support, adult development programs and recreation.

Community Living Toronto has also created many innovative programs and projects using technology, corporate partners and the skills and strength of our members and staff. Some of these include bereavement groups, peer-to-peer parent support, education liaison, career and life planning for youth still in school and behaviour and home consultation.
