2.4 Job Description of the Chairperson

Authority & Responsibility

The Chairperson is responsible and accountable to the membership.

Qualifications/Skills

Completed two years of Board membership term, have an understanding of parliamentary procedures, and be a member in good standing.

Term of Office

  • Two (2) years service.

  • Reviewed and elected annually at Annual General Meeting.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission and values of ORWC.

  • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, human resources experience, leadership, marketing.

  • Willingness to serve on at least one additional committee as well as Chair the Executive Committee meetings.

  • A time commitment of ___ to___ hours per month. (Includes Board preparation, travel time & meeting and committee meeting time).

  • Foster a positive working relationship with other Board members and staff.

Duties

  • Assist in developing the overall long and short term goals, objectives and priorities for ORWC in meeting the requirements and expectations of the membership.

  • Address the Annual General Meeting.

  • The Chairperson of the Board shall be a signing officer of the Corporation.

  • When present, the Chairperson will preside at all meetings of Members of the Corporation and the Board of Directors.

  • The Chairperson is charged with the general management and supervision of the affairs and operations of the Corporation.

  • The Chairperson of the Board, with another officer elected by the Board for the purpose, shall sign all by-laws and documents of the Corporation.
