5.4 Job Description of the Provincial Coordinator

Ontario Rehabilitation, Work and Community is a professional association representing organizations which provide innovative training to assist individual with significant barriers to make the transition to employment and community-based alternatives.

Position Summary

The Provincial Coordinator oversees and directs the operations of ORWC with direction from the Board of Directors, in keeping with appropriate professional guidelines and legislative requirements.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Community Liaison
  • Maintains an effective and professional relationship with community agencies, outside resources and professionals.

  • Promotes the organization’s philosophy and mission statement.

  • Represents the organization at functions, meetings and committees.

  • Participates in community work.

  • Deals with media requests.

  • Responsible for the development of the organization’s promotional material.

2. Responsible for the financial operations of the organization

  • Assumes fiscal responsibility for operations of the organization.

  • Reports on the financial status of the organization to the Board and related issues.

  • Ensures the completion and submission of all Ministry required reports and documentation.

  • Supervises the maintenance of financial records and accounts and reviews them regularly.

  • Reviews and approves all expenditures up to $1000.

  • Prepares all proposals regarding financial matters over $1000. for Board approval.

3. Participates in all Board activities

  • Coordinates and attends all Board and Board Committee meetings.

  • Ensures that the Board is informed of organizational issues.

  • Participates in the planning activities with the Board.

  • Implements Board directives.

  • Ensures that the by-laws are respected and that any necessary review or revision is brought to the attention of the Board.

  • Ensures that the Board minutes and financial report are distributed to all Board members and stored in a safe and secure manner.

4. Participates in all fundraising and training activities of the organization

  • Assumes a leadership role in the planning and implementation of all fundraising activities for the organization.

  • Ensures that all legal requirements of any gaming licenses held by the organization are met.

  • Develops grant requests for funding proposals.

  • Ensures that adequate fundraising and training records are maintained.

  • Ensures that appropriate financial records are maintained.

5. Communication

  • Develops and maintains an active and professional relationship with all member agencies.

  • Develops and distributes quarterly newsletters to ORWC membership.

  • Prepares bulletin updates on activities of the Board and committees.

  • Liaise with chapter chairs and assists in the development of new regional chapters.

  • Responds to members needs in a timely fashion.

Job Specifications

Education

  • Graduation from a recognized university or community college with a degree or diploma in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology or other related fields.

  • Additional training in areas of business management and human resources management.

Related Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years supervisory experience in the field of developmental services or related field.

  • Extensive experience in managing human resources.

  • Experience in financial management.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Sound understanding of the developmental service sector including familiarity with various funding sources.

  • Knowledge of various disabilities.

Abilities

  • Ability to represent the organization in the community in a professional and positive manner.

  • Ability to work with families and other agencies.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Proven leadership skills.

  • Effective problem-solving skills.
